Oppo’s Find N6 Introduces a Near-Flawless Foldable Display Amid Rising Industry Challenges
Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo has made a bold entry into the foldable phone market with the launch of its latest model, the Find N6. This move comes as the industry faces increasing challenges, including rising memory prices and growing anticipation for Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone.
The Find N6 was launched globally on Tuesday and features a significant improvement in hinge technology, which Oppo claims makes the crease on the foldable screen “virtually imperceptible.” According to Pete Lau, senior vice-president and chief product officer at Oppo, the issue of creases has been a major concern for users of foldable devices.
“Foldables offer the advantage of a larger display, but the crease has remained one of the primary concerns for users,” Lau said. “It’s a challenge Oppo has sought to solve ever since the original Find N.”
Key Specifications and Design
The Find N6 is designed to be both compact and powerful. When folded, it measures just 8.93mm (0.35 inches) in thickness and weighs 225 grams (7.9 ounces). The device runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 mobile platform, which supports advanced artificial intelligence capabilities and multitasking performance.
This new model represents Oppo’s continued push into the premium smartphone segment. However, the company is navigating a challenging landscape where component costs are surging due to a global memory shortage. This has put pressure on profit margins and forced many manufacturers to increase their prices.
Price Adjustments and Market Trends
Last week, Oppo announced price increases of 300 yuan (US$44) to 500 yuan on some handsets, citing rising costs for key components such as high-speed memory hardware. These new prices took effect on Monday. Other brands have also followed suit. Vivo and its sub-brand iQOO announced price adjustments starting from Wednesday, though they did not specify the extent of the changes.
According to research firm IDC, global smartphone shipments are expected to decline by 13% in 2026, reaching 1.12 billion units. This would mark the largest drop in the industry’s history. Despite this, foldable smartphones are expected to be one of the few bright spots in the market.
The Future of Foldable Smartphones
IDC forecasts that global foldable smartphone shipments will grow by 30% in 2026, driven in part by the anticipated release of Apple’s first foldable iPhone. Analysts expect this device to make a significant impact, potentially capturing over 22% of unit share and 34% of the category’s value in its debut year.
In China, Oppo is set to face strong competition from Huawei Technologies, which held 71% of the domestic foldable market in 2025, according to IDC data. Honor ranked second with 9%, followed by Vivo with 5%. Oppo tied with Samsung for fourth place, each holding 4.3%.
As the foldable market continues to evolve, companies like Oppo are investing heavily in innovation to meet consumer demand and stay ahead of the competition. With the potential arrival of Apple’s foldable iPhone, the industry is poised for a period of rapid growth and transformation.
