Strengthening Bilateral Ties Between Bangladesh and Indonesia
Bangladesh and Indonesia have taken significant steps to enhance their bilateral cooperation, focusing on key areas such as trade, investment, energy, connectivity, and people-to-people exchanges. The discussions took place during a meeting between the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Bangladesh, Listyowati, and the State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, Shama Obaed Islam, MP.
The meeting highlighted the importance of expanding economic ties between the two nations. Both parties emphasized the need to accelerate negotiations on the Bangladesh-Indonesia Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA), which is seen as a crucial step in boosting trade relations and creating new opportunities for businesses in both countries.

In addition to discussing bilateral cooperation, the State Minister sought Indonesia’s support for Bangladesh’s bid to become an ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partner. This would allow Bangladesh to engage more closely with ASEAN member states on specific issues of mutual interest.
She also requested continued support for Bangladesh in international forums, including its role as the President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in 2026-2027. The State Minister emphasized the importance of multilateral cooperation and the need for strong partnerships to address global challenges.
